Professor Troy Miedema is a second degree Brazilian Jiu Jitsu black belt who began training in 2010. Troy began his jiu jitsu journey under team A-force with professor Carlos DeSantiago in New Braunfels where he progressed to purple belt. After moving to the Bastrop area in 2015 he transferred to Insight BJJ and team Brasa. Troy began teaching kids and adult classes shortly after arriving and remained there coaching for many years. He received his black belt under professor Mario Esfiha in 2019.
All three of his kids grew up training and he had the privilege of promoting his son to black belt in December 2025. His daughters are both blue belts.
Troy has been married to his beautiful wife Deborah for 25 years. He has attended Grace Bible Fellowship for the past 11 years and has served as an elder for the past 3. He leads a Grappling with God Bible study there on Sunday afternoons. Troy is a Christian man who loves Jesus and helping others.
